Create a Language Learning Chatbot Scenario

Practise real conversation skills with an AI chatbot in a chosen language.

Teaching Context:
Ideal for Year 7 to Year 10 students learning French, Spanish, Japanese or other second languages.

Basic AI Prompt:
Pretend to be a French waiter. Take my order in French.

Enhanced AI Prompt:
You are a student learning a new language. Create a short roleplay where AI becomes a conversation partner in a specific setting such as a café, school, airport or market. Practise greetings, questions and key vocabulary. Ask for translations and corrections.

Spice it Up (Optional Extension):
Use voice-to-text tools to speak your answers aloud with pronunciation support.

Lesson Implementation:
Begin with vocabulary and sentence stems related to a scenario (e.g. shopping). Students then interact with AI in pairs using the enhanced prompt. They note down helpful phrases and corrections, then build their own written dialogue. Offer a speaking rubric and encourage performance in small groups.

Use Google Translate with care for pronunciation. Duolingo and Flip can support additional practise. This activity boosts fluency and builds confidence in contextual speaking.
